Panel OKs budget plan: Gov. Bev Perdue gets money more quickly for such projects as Yadkin bridge

RALEIGH (AP) - The N.C. House's largest committee has moved a nearly $19 billion spending plan for North Carolina government one step closer to passage.

The House Appropriations Committee approved the plan yesterday on a voice vote. The full House will debate the bill today in hopes of passing it by early Friday to stay on track to get a final budget to Gov. Bev Perdue before July 1.

One amendment approved would shift money more quickly to a special fund that Perdue sought for transportation projects, such as the second phase of Yadkin River bridge improvements along Interstate 85.
