Bully Pulpit

Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Will smoking be prohibited in county buildings?--This issue will come to action at the next commissioners meeting

(By Leslie Bray Evans, The Stokes News) - Smoking in county buildings was again a hot topic at the regular county commissioners meeting on Monday afternoon. The issue of whether to ban it or not should be resolved at the next meeting.

The proposed resolution in support of prohibiting smoking in county buildings had been presented by Stokes County Health Director Josh Swift, at the request of the Stokes County Board of Health, at the July 26 meeting. Ninety percent of North Carolina counties already have 50-foot smoke and tobacco-free barriers around their health departments and Division of Social Services facilities. Seventy percent of county buildings in NC are already smoke free.

The majority consensus at the July 26 meeting was to direct Stokes County Manager Bryan Steen to come up with other options for the Board to explore.
