Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Source: Murkowski to Mount Write-in Candidacy

(FOXNews.com) - Get ready for the rematch.

Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who lost in a stunning upset to Tea Party-backed Joe Miller in the Republican Senate primary last month, is planning to mount a write-in candidacy for the general election in November, a Murkowski ally told Fox News.

Murkowski was swayed by a recent poll showing that if she ran as an independent, she'd beat Miller by 6 percentage points and Democratic candidate Scott McAdams by 18 percentage points, said Andrew Halcro, a former Republican candidate for governor.

(The Campaign Spot) - Between Arlen Specter, Charlie Crist, Mike Castle refusing to endorse O’Donnell — a forgivable sentiment the day after a bitter defeat, less so as time goes by — and the rumor that Murkowski is running, the RINO-hunters have a point that the moderates never seem to be willing to compromise or put the party’s interest first.

The NRSC will help elect a lot of winning GOP candidates this year, but between Specter, Crist, and Murkowski, they have had an embarrassing cycle...

(Townhall.com) - Just like another insufferable sore loser and opportunist, Lisa Murkowski made a free choice to run as a Republican with her eyes wide open. She's served as an elected Republican for her entire political career. She was, and is, entirely aware that Republican primaries are decided by actual Republican voters--those voters have spoken, and she lost. This write-in effort is destined to fail spectacularly and demonstrates a delusional self-regard that is as reckless as it is pathetic. Even as the resident RINO here at Townhall, I have no qualms about going nuclear on her for this indefensible fool's errand.

(Townhall.com) - I have a message for Lisa Murkowski, considering a write-in bid for the US Senate. It's also a message for Charlie Crist -- who lost the primary in Florida and is now running as an independent -- and for Delaware's Mike Castle, who released a remarkably graceless press release in the wake of his primary defeat by Christine O'Donnell (and seemed to leave himself "wiggle room" about his plans in the event of a defeat).

Here is the message: Get over yourselves. Not to put too fine a point on it, YOU LOST. Now, if you care at all about the Republican voters in your state or Republicans generally or saving America from the Obama disaster, step aside graciously.

By your behavior, you are displaying the arrogance, the self-centeredness, the utter lack of respect for GOP voters that has animated the Tea Party, and with such good reason. You're revealing yourselves as people who care about nothing larger than yourself and holding onto a taxpayer subsidized job.

So do the right thing (well, it's too late for Charlie Crist). Accept the will of the voters and decline to play the role of Democrat stalking horse and spoiler. And spare yourselves the humiliation and shame of losing twice while empowering continued domination of government by liberal Democrats. Please.

It's not just about you. It's about America.
