Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

18-Term Democrat Jim Oberstar Jeered, Booed During Rowdy Debate

(The Blast) - During a debate between Democratic Congressman Jim Oberstar and his Republican challenger Chip Cravaack in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional district, the crowd became pretty vocal at times. Most of the jeers were geared towards the 18-term Democrat.


A political debate heats up in Minnesota's eighth congressional district. Heckling, name calling and even fist-fights in the audience for a meeting between Democratic Congressman Jim Oberstar and his Republican challenger Chip Cravaack.
