Farmer Who Cared for UNC Mascot Dies After Fall
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WGHP) - Rob Hogan, 54, a ninth-generation farmer who followed in the family tradition of caring for the University of North Carolina's mascot, died after an illness stemming from a fall.
The UNC General Alumni Association said Hogan died early Friday morning at UNC Hospital. Officials confirmed the Carrboro resident had fallen from his tractor on Sept. 15 while harvesting hay.
Hogan was injured in the fall but died from an illness on Friday. Doctors diagnosed him with a condition that causes muscle tissue to die and release a substance that is toxic to the kidneys.
