SBI Investigating Yadkin County Sheriff's Office

YADKINVILLE, NC (WGHP) - SBI officials have confirmed to FOX8 that they are in the midst of an ongoing investigation involving the Yadkin County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation began in July at the request of the Yadkin County District Attorney.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The Elkin Tribune reported Wednesday that the investigation centers around the ownership of three Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Documents obtained by the Tribune show the motorcycles were leased to the sheriff's office, but three employees, including Sheriff Mike Cain himself, told the Tribune in 2009 they bought the bikes outright.

The Tribune reports that the employees may have taken advantage of a complex leasing deal that could have kept them from paying taxes on property valued at more more than $13,000.
