City of King proposes policy that would allow citizens to fly flags at veterans memorial
(By John Hinton, Winston-Salem Journal) - King residents can request to fly a religious flag for a week at the city’s Veteran’s Memorial to honor relatives who served in the armed forces under a policy city officials are considering.
The city would use a lottery system to randomly select the residents who want to fly a religious flag at the memorial’s Central Park site, Joe Infranco, a lawyer with the Alliance Defense Fund, said during a three-hour public hearing about the policy last night at King Elementary School. About 100 people attended.
The proposal’s airing was the latest development in the fight over the removal of a Christian flag from the memorial in September.
