Mount Airy candidate for state house charged with DWI twice in two days

MOUNT AIRY (By Paul Garber, Winston-Salem Journal) - Randy Wolfe, a challenger for the N.C. House 90th District in Surry County, was arrested twice over the weekend for driving while intoxicated.

“I made a mistake over the weekend,” Wolfe, 58, said this morning. “I apologize to my supporters. The mistake was mine.”

With early voting concluded and Election Day tomorrow, it’s too late for Wolfe to drop out of the race. He has, though, taken down his campaign Web site.

“I thought it best to take it down this morning,” Wolfe said.

Wolfe, a Democrat, is a Mount Airy native and retired CBS News producer who is making his first run for office, challenging Republican incumbent Rep. Sarah Stevens.
