NCDOT Takes First Step to Replace Yadkin River Bridge

Crews begin work on temporary work bridge

DAVDSON COUNTY, NC (WGHP) —
Before crews can replace the aging I-85 bridge over the Yadkin River in Davidson County, they need a platform to work from. In essence, they must build a bridge in order to build a bridge.

NCDOT crews with the joint venture team of Flatiron Constructors Inc. and The Lane Corp. are constructing a temporary work bridge that will span the river and serve as a sturdy base to support the equipment and workers needed to build the new Yadkin River bridges.

"This is an important step forward for our I-85 Corridor Improvement Project," said N.C. Department of Transportation Division 9 Engineer Pat Ivey. "Motorists across the state have waited a long time for the 55-year-old Yadkin River bridge to be replaced, and the temporary work bridge will help make that happen."
