NHL Game Features Three Fights, Two Goals In First 1 Minute And 20 Seconds
(By Glenn Davis, SportsGrid) - We’d venture to guess that casual hockey fans (and hey, probably a lot of hardcore fans too) have two events high up on their wish list of things to see when they attend a game – goals and fights. Sure, a sportsmanlike 0-0 tie that has to go to a shootout can feature brilliant play in its own right, but the visceral thrills of goals and fights are tough to top – and it’s tough to provide more of each, in a shorter span, than last night’s Bruins-Stars game.
The first fight happened literally one second into the game. The game did not keep up this 3,600-fight pace for long, but incredibly, it did briefly, as the game’s second fight took place two seconds into the action. After a placid second, the third fight took place four seconds in. This put the game on pace for a still-impressive 2,700 fights, but this pace, alas, was not maintained either.
Oh, and after all that fighting was done, the Bruins’ Milan Lucic scored a goal 35 seconds into the game. Teammate Patrice Bergeron added another score 45 seconds later. Sadly, as with the fighting, the Bruins did not keep up this goal-scoring pace (they would have scored 90 if they had). They did, however, come away with a 6-3 win, and since the NHL knows when its league gives the people what they want, you can see highlights of that wild first 1:20 below.
