Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Fire Dept Removes American Flag from Uniforms

(Breitbart.tv) - According to the Bakersfield Fire Department, it's not about patriotism, it's about "consistency and uniform".

I don’t know where some of you think this is our idea. I’ve been a Fire Fighter for the City of Bakersfield since 1986. We, as a Dept. are very patriotic, hosting, and paying for the 4th of July show for over half a century. We’ve purchased huge American flags to fly on our ladder trucks for every function that’s is asked of us. We’ve proudly worn the flag on our shoulders for years. Our children serve in the armed forces of our country, (I have 3 sons who’ve served in Iraq).
This is a not a newsworthy item. Our dept. is simply moving the flag to our nameplates. It’s just so we look UNIFORM. There have been at least 3 different styles of the American flags on our uniform, (patches sewn on, and embroidery) the shirts come from different vendors.
So instead of a hodgepoge of different styles, we are trying to ALL LOOK UNIFORM!!!
I’m sorry that you’ve been misled by “the Media”. But you should know by now that they never let the facts, get in the way of a good story.
