Bully Pulpit

Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

North Wilkesboro Speedway Closing Yet Again

WILKESBORO, NC (WGHP) — The North Wilkesboro Speedway, which re-opened to stock-car racing last fall after being closed since 1996, is closing yet again.

Speedway Associates Inc., the operator of the track, said in a news release the business climate and lack of working capital is forcing the track to close.

Alton McBride Jr., the president of Speedway Associates, said in the release: "Simply put we made a lot of improvements to the speedway. We lined up some great events. However, even though we can project positive income from events at the speedway, we do not have the money needed on the front end to make those events happen. In spite of our complete investmentment in the speedway and in this community, we have run out of money necessary to go forward."
