Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Gas Euthanization Chamber To Remain at Davidson Co. Animal Shelter

DAVIDSON COUNTY, NC (WGHP) - Despite a standing-room-only crowd of supporters, a motion to end the use of a gas euthanization chamber at the Davidson County Animal Shelter failed on Tuesday.

The lack of a vote made some of the nearly 200 in attendance so upset that they booed, yelled and cursed at commissioners. Lexington Police were called in to try to calm the unruly crowd. One man was escorted out of the meeting.

Sheriff David Grice, who oversees the shelter, said the chamber is humane and is also cheaper than lethal injection. Grice said lethal injection is currently used more often than the gas chamber, but he said he can't support doing it away completely for feral and wild animals.
