(By PAUL GARBER, Winston-Salem Journal) - Construction of a portion of the eastern leg of the Northern Beltway will begin in 2014, and the state will start buying up $34 million in rights-of-way for the project starting next year, Gov. Bev Perdue announced Wednesday.
Construction for the portion connecting U.S. 158 to Business 40 in western Kernersville is expected to cost $156 million. The full eastern leg will connect U.S. 52 north of Winston-Salem to U.S. 311.
"This project has never been scheduled before, and you have got it in writing today," Perdue said.
