The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Grandfather Charged With Threatening Surry County, NC Basketball Coach

DOBSON, NC (WGHP) - A man was arrested after allegedly threatening to cut an assistant coach's throat during a boys' varsity basketball game Tuesday in Surry County.

The Mount Airy News reported that James Lewis Shuff, 66, of Pilot Mountain, allegedly made the threat to East Surry Assistant Coach Brandon Cook during a game at North Surry High School.

North Surry was playing East Surry and Shuff allegedly approached Cook at the East Surry bench. Police reportedly escorted Shuff off court following the incident.

Shuff was charged Wednesday afternoon at his home on Thompson Drive. He faces charges of communicating threats and disorderly conduct.

He was released from Surry County Jail on a $500 secured bond.

A motive was not provided. Shuff is reportedly a grandparent.

East Surry's Varsity Basketball Head Coach Jason Anderson was not at the game because of a two-game suspension.
