Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Wake Forest basketball coach apologizes for swearing at fan

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (By Scott Gustin, WGHP) — Wake Forest Athletics Director Ron Wellman addressed an incident that took place Saturday when when basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik responded to a Miami fan’s taunts with profanity.

Bzdelik acknowledged Wednesday that he did direct one obscenity at the fan during the Deacons’ 74-56 loss to the Hurricanes at Miami’s BankUnited Center.

“I was wrong,” Bzdelik said. “It’s something that I have never done before, and certainly something I would never do again.”
