Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

My thoughts on the lottery...

The state government in Raleigh has no business being in the gambling business. If they want legal gambling (which is what the lottery is), then they should let private businesses like Harrah's, etc. to do it. The state can then tax the business like they do everything else. Remember, the proper role of government is to provide for people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations themselves... I believe Harrah's and other gambling businesses can handle things.

With regard to Behethland's post: I hope the state wouldn't be in the business of building casinos if gambling was made legal in NC... However, nothing surprises me that comes out of Raleigh anymore.

Just my 2 cents worth, but I won't charge... :-)
