Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: The Leash-Girl and "Busting Providence"

Steve Brenneis opines:

I think I read somewhere that this girl has a number of birth defects that resulted in a low IQ, speech impediments, and behavioral problems. Furthermore, her boyfriend testified that she was misled into believing that their activities were part of a legitimate training exercise. Under normal circumstances I might have rejected that claim, but in this case, it sounds suspiciously like the Army bureaucracy is making cannon-fodder of this soldier in order to protect the stars of those who should be held accountable.

I think the judge did the right thing by throwing out her guilty plea.
