Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: RE: RE: Laura leaves 'em laughing, gasping

Steve Brenneis responds to yours truly:

Sorry, I'm not a Laura Bush fan. I don't think she's cute or funny or endearing at all. I don't like her liberal positions on social issues and anyone who says the First Lady has no influence on such things is a fool.

Her comments were mildly amusing, her delivery stunk. She would have been tossed out in the first round of any minor talent show. The entertainment value was solely based on the fact that it was Laura Bush saying those things. I can imagine that Barbara Bush was not amused at being compared to Don Corleone. But, then again, maybe she was. I just find the entire Bush clan's self-absorption extremely tiresome.

Just call me a grumpy old man.
