Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Re: Big money socialism

Absolutely. It's ridiculous. When I lived in Nashville (Davidson County, Tennessee), the Titans' stadium was built with county tax dollars. But the vast majority of PSL holders live in Williamson County, which is where the wealthy suburbs are. Essentially, the folks who paid for the stadium weren't the ones that could afford the exorbitant ticket prices. I never went once; I couldn't justify it. However, I helped pay for the damn place.

Of course, proponents of the stadium touted jobs — all low-paying service industry gigs. What a crock.
