Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Anti-war vs. Anti-American

Andy-
Where did you get the impression that the Green Day song comes across as anti-American? I didn't get that from reading this article. Sounds like it is just a personal account of war and leaving loved ones behind. That's no different than the popular music during WWII. Since you haven't heard the song, you must be getting the anti-American idea from somewhere else.
