Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Hybrids

I'm watching the hybrids very closely. I test drove a Prius about three years ago. They are not bad little cars. Unfortunately, my commute (60 miles one way) is mostly highway driving and the Prius gets no better fuel economy on the highway than an Echo or a Corolla. They are also somewhat expensive. However, if someone could come up with a kit for about $3,000 that would extend the plug-in hybrid boost to something like 100 miles, I would definitely get one.

The other big issue on which proponents of hydrogen fuel cells are not very forthcoming is safety. The energy to volume ratio of hydrogen is much higher than it is with fossil fuels. That's one of the things that makes it so attractive as an alternative. However it makes your car into more of a rolling bomb than it already is.
