RE: Me Right, You Wrong!
Congratulations, Strother, that was a classic liberal response.
...the true meanings of both words 'liberal' and 'conservative' have been lost. And that's too bad. Once upon a time, both were good and useful words.
Once upon a time? When? The meanings of these words have shifted pretty much continuously down through history and they have different meanings in different places. The concept of a "true" meaning of the terms is pointless speculation. Libertarianism was once called classical liberalism. Constitutional libertarians are now grouped with far-right conservatives. The terms have contexts tied to time and place. They have meaning within those contexts.
Now they exist as solely a tool to polarize average Americans, effectively separating them into two distinct categories, or teams.
Tools used by whom? And here's a news flash for you: Americans are polarized. Use of the terms is simply a manner of describing the polarization. There is no causality in the use of the terms.
This propaganda serves no good purpose.
I'm not sure to what propaganda you are referring, but as a general statement, that is always true.
Interesting... A self-proclaimed American conservative -- whose political peers regularly wield the power of Christianity and their version of Bible-defined morality to influence voters -- trashing dogma. Hilarious. Judging from this guy's take on conservatism, the Christian Right are wrong.
And with that, you are guilty of propagating the very propaganda against which you railed above. You have lumped all conservatives into one camp, that of the supposed religious right. No such camp exists. All conservatives don't "wield" any such power and everyone who does wield it isn't necessarily a conservative. And how do you know who his political peers are?
They talk about this sort of divisive 'me right, you wrong' crap.
So no one should attempt to prove they are right? And there is no such thing as a zero-sum game? That's cookie-cutter liberal BS. It is liberal-speak that reduces to, "shut up and agree with me."
Everything must be reduced to an 'either/or' argument to keep both Dems and Reps in business.
How very true. But Democrat and Republican doesn't really have anything to do with conservative or liberal. The Republicans as a group aren't conservative any more than Democrats are liberal. They are both, as organizations, dedicated to statism and oligarchy. Both actively promote the expansion of socialism in America.
The most powerful and useful sentiment from both of the articles is this sentence:
"The common liberal is but a pawn in the ongoing struggle between socialism and freedom."
That is absolutely true, but I would further add that you can substitute Republican or Democrat for liberal in that sentence and it still retains its accuracy.
