RE: Mexican Troops Cross into U.S. for Hurricane Relief
A response from my friend Robert Jolly:
It is rather touching that our neighbor to the south is coming to our aid and I thank the Mexican government for its generosity. However, I find it difficult to accept that we, as a nation, are in this predicament in that we have vast reserves of wealth that dwarf the GNP of every nation that has offered to help. Why is this so? I can make an educated guess that if an unbiased investigation were to occur, a sort of national accounting system, one would discover that the general welfare of our nation through governmental action has been so undermined by the incredibly generous tax cuts focused upon the top 1% of income earners and net worth that, in effect, we are a bankrupt society that sees its only functions as protecting wealth, protecting the wealthy, paying for military and police forces to protect that wealth, and imprison anyone not belonging to the "ownership class" who dares to threaten the status quo. Additionally, the idea that the electorate made up of non-owners could overturn this situation cannot be tolerated, so that the Machiavellian solution of doing anything to maintain control (i.e. steal elections) has happened twice in the past five years and will probably continue until the general population is willing to take a clear stand against this chicanery.
