Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Profound Words Of Harry S. Truman

Harry Truman was the last of the conservative Democrat Presidents. He was one of the better Presidents of the last century. Unfortunately his star was somewhat dimmed by his predecessor, the socialist Roosevelt. He made an agonizing decision for which he is still reviled by many today. That decision saved tens of thousands of lives and ended a destructive war years early. Decisions like that are the mark of a statesman and a leader. It could be convincingly argued that, until Reagan, Truman was the last, great leader to serve in the White House.

He was staunchly anti-communist and that led him to take us into unfortunate action in Korea. But Truman was the first President and the last Democrat to understand the grave threat posed by communism and socialism to the vision of the founders.

I wish the Democrats had a Harry Truman wing of their party. I think the tone and quality of American politics could only be improved.
