Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: RE: No Clue

"The government's job is to take care of it's citizens. Who else is going to assist these folks if not FEMA? You sure can't leave that one up to private industry!"

Actually, the government's job is to protect us from one another, and they are doing a very poor job of that in New Orleans.

"Oh, and by the way, I encounter people every day who deny the degree of poverty we have in this country. Some of them are right here on the 'ol BP!"

I don't deny the degree of poverty, but I don't obsess about it like some do.

"I have lots of ideas about how to employ people in this country, and my ideas are called socialism by people like you."

If you believe that the best way to employ people in this country is through government control of the production and distribution of goods and services, then it is socialism and you are a socialist.
