Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Lexington lawyer considering run for office, maybe governor

I think Snyder has worn out his welcome in running for office... He's becoming another Vinroot.

LEXINGTON - Jim Snyder, a lawyer from Lexington, may run again for elective office.

A Snyder aide circulated a letter yesterday from U.S. Rep. Howard Coble, R-6th, urging Snyder to "consider running for Lieutenant Governor or Governor or such other high office."

Snyder was last year's Republican nominee for lieutenant governor. He said in a statement yesterday that he is "strongly considering" a run for office, and he has said previously that he is interested in being governor.

Snyder's only elective position has been in the N.C. House in 1971, when he finished the term of his father, who died while in office.
