Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Cronyism

The cronyism issue will be what scuttles Miers nomination (if anything does). One might almost suspect that Bush's own Machiavelli, a.k.a. Karl Rove, was missing from this decision. So soon on the heels of the Michael Brown issue, it is utterly sophomoric of the Bush Administration to put up another Bush insider and utterly moronic to put up a crony with questionable qualifications for the job.

The Senate GOP leadership would be well advised to urge Bush to pull this nomination.
