RE: RE: Stokes education board to discuss its future needs
This sort of thing makes my skin crawl. Of course, no one will bring up the fact (publicly) that they paid a consultant to tell them exactly what they wanted to hear and exactly what they needed to go beat the commissioners over the head.
For fans of political connections, a bit of irony. John says the overcrowding is due to out-of-control development, mostly around King. That is as it was when I was on the board as well. Little Ronnie Carroll's political mentor is, has been, and always will be Buster Robertson. Carroll would essentially be a puppet of the Stokes County residential development cadre. Once again, there would be a majority on the board that would look the other way as Buster and friends loot and pillage the county. The irony comes in the fact that Ronnie-boy will run as a "friend of education" candidate and the very people, teachers, soccer moms, bedroom community luddites, who are being skewered by the residential development oligopoly will be his number one fans and supporters. So, while Ronnie-boy is making sympathetic doe-eyes at the unwashed, his masters will be busy building row after row of tract homes and squashing more and more middle-class white flight participants into trailers and worn out school buildings. Taxes will skyrocket because 200 tract homes don't generate enough tax revenue to build new schools (which costs about four times what any other construction does) or hire enough teachers to cover the overflow. By the time the whole mess collapses in a steaming pile and the bedroom communities don't look so inviting any more, Buster and his pals will have comfortably amassed what booty they could and will be sitting with their feet up while the bottom drops out of everything around them.
