Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Actress in local film Junebug honored for role at Spirit Awards

From today's Winston-Salem Journal:

SANTA MONICA, CALIF.: Amy Adams won the award for best supporting actress last night at the Independent Spirit Awards for her role in Junebug, a low-budget comedy-drama filmed in and around Winston-Salem. She has been nominated for an Oscar for the same role.
The movie was filmed over a 20-day period in the summer of 2004. Its director, Phil Morrison, grew up in Winston-Salem, and its screenwriter, Angus MacLachlan, lives in Winston-Salem. In addition, Celia Weston, one of the film's stars, attended the School of Drama at the N.C. School of the Arts and Salem College. Many of the extras in the film are from Winston-Salem.
