Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: NSA secret database report triggers fierce debate in Washington

A fierce debate erupted Thursday over the legality and appropriateness of a massive secret database built by the National Security Agency that contains the phone records of tens of millions of Americans.

I don't know how secret it was since The New York Times first reported this program back in December. People in Washington act like this is the first time they've heard about this, even though members of the Senate Intel Committee have been briefed on this since it started.

NSA collected records from landlines and cellphones at homes, businesses and government offices across the country, including calls by individuals not suspected of wrongdoing.

There has been no eavesdropping... People need to chill.
