Bully Pulpit

Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rockefeller Republicans...

Steve opines: Buster and his ilk, Ron Carroll, Ernest Lankford, et al, were never ideologically Republican. Republican was the name of their team, it defined what color jersey they wore.
I believe the Stokes GOP establishment is what we call Rockefeller Republicans... They don't like conservatives. This was evident when Buster started knocking Jesse Helms in the paper after Buster got beat by the Turpins in '02. Remember, the Republican Party used to be the liberal party before Reagan. The reason Reagan ran against Ford in '76 was because he thought Ford was too liberal. Matter of fact, Carter was the conservative in his race against Ford in '76.
