Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Ann Coulter Banned in New Jersey?

Two New Jersey Democrats are pushing to have Ann Coulter's new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," banned from all bookstores in their state because she criticized four 9/11 widows known as "the Jersey Girls."

In a joint press release issued Friday, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender say they want New Jersey retailers to "ban the sale of [Coulter's] book throughout the state."

"Ann Coulter's criticism of 9/11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate," the two Democrats complained.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books . . . She is a leech trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others."

Well, well, well. Here's a thoughtful and measured response from the left.

Liberals continue to be stupid. I'll be sure to let you know if that changes.

It seems Ann Coulter operates very much like an exceptional spiritual teacher by being willing to call a spade a spade. She sees that Liberals are hopelessly trapped in fantasy and self-deception and she calls them on it. If they refuse to look at themselves and the depths of their own hatred, they will attack her as hateful ones always attack. If her wake-up call is heard just a little, they will grow and open spiritually.

Don't spare Tucker a second thought, Christian Prophet. He is a hate-filled, ignorant young man who thinks that discourse consists of calling people names and insulting their beliefs. He viscerally hates Christians and Christianity, but for nominal family and community reasons, he finds himself forced to obscure his hatred with what he believes to be reason. In truth, he does little more that regurgitate invective, since original thought has been banished from his mind by his all-consuming hatred.

Thought is wasted on Tucker, but your prayers for him are always welcome, although he won't thank you for them.
