Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines Jumps the Shark: Now Bashes Patriots

When the whole firestorm that surrounded the Dixie Chicks and specifically lead singer Natalie Maines emerged in 2003 I thought it was a bit blown out of proportion.

I completely disagreed with her off the cuff statement in London that she was "ashamed" of the president being from Texas - but as she was just an entertainer - I thought the reaction was a bit overdone.
