Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Saddam's Terror Training Camps

Bless their little spinning, neocon hearts.

This is old news. These documents were "leaked" shortly after we invaded and subdued Iraq. They were supposed to prove a connection between Al Qaida and Saddam. They do no such thing. The fact that Hussein had bellicose intentions toward the US was no secret. The fact that he was at least turning a blind eye to the operations of Al Qaida, Hizbullah and others inside his country isn't new either. If those were the best reasons we had for invading Iraq, why didn't we invade Saudi Arabia, or Syria, or Iran, or even Egypt? All of that is/was equally true of them as well. Or even more to the point, using the reasoning of the time, we should have invaded North Korea.

I guess Barnes and Kristol are worried their beloved neocon pols are going to take a beating in about eight weeks, hence more attempts at providing justification (read excuses) for invading and occupying a sovereign nation that posed no imminent threat to us.
