Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Stokes board wants voters to choose election plan

Residents will be asked to decide between an at-large system or districts

DANBURY


The Stokes County Board of Commissioners wants residents to vote on dividing the county into five electoral districts.

At present, the five members of the board are elected at large.

The board voted 3-2 Thursday to pose the question on the Nov. 7 general-election ballot.
