Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Carroll leads vote in election in Stokes

Lankford, Smith also win seats on board of commissioners

DANBURY


Two Republicans and one Democrat were elected yesterday to the Stokes County Board of Commissioners.

Unofficial and incomplete results show that Ron Carroll, a Republican, led with 6,743 votes. Ernest Lankford, also a Republican, had 5,712 votes, and Stanley Smith, a Democrat, had 5,675 votes.

Mike Culler, a Republican candidate had 5,414 votes, Brad Newsome, a Democratic candidate, had 5,063 votes, and Joe Southern, a Democratic candidate, had 4,380 votes.

Carroll, Lankford and Smith will serve four-year terms on the board.
