Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Scandal may have taken Black down

Even if he retains seat, some say he might not be re-elected speaker

Jim Black may keep and even increase his seven-vote lead over Hal Jordan once all of Tuesday's votes are counted. But his run as the state House's top Democrat - tainted this year by ethics and campaign-finance troubles - may well have ended on Election Day.
