Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Bush's budget would help parkway

ASHEVILLE —
The Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountains National Park would get more money for visitor services, upkeep and law enforcement under President Bush’s federal budget proposal.

The proposal calls for giving the National Park Service $2.4 billion, its largest ever for operations and largest funding increase.
