Black's term could exceed guidelines

RALEIGH (Winston-Salem Journal) - Jim Black, the disgraced former speaker of the N.C. House, may be sentenced this month to a prison term longer than what is recommended in federal sentencing guidelines.

The federal judge who will sentence Black said in court documents filed this week that he is “contemplating an upward departure” from the guidelines.
