Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Panel to study voting-district system in Stokes

DANBURY (Winston-Salem Journal) - A bipartisan committee, which will be appointed by Stokes County Board of Commissioners, will soon study options for a countywide voting-district system.

The commissioners reviewed a list of 17 residents recommended for the committee at its meeting yesterday. Commissioners Ron Carroll and Jimmy Walker nominated an additional person.

The commissioners will appoint a seven-member committee for the study.
