Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

John Edwards: Americans Should 'Sacrifice' SUVs for Environment

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Fox News) — Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a labor group that he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice: their sport utility vehicles.

"I think Americans are actually willing to sacrifice," Edwards said Tuesday during a forum held by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. "One of the things they should be asked to do is drive more fuel efficient vehicles."

The former North Carolina senator was asked specifically if he would tell them to give up their SUVs, he said, "Yes."

You almost have to wonder if there is some effort here in concert with Hillary. No one is this stupid. Edwards has to be playing the buffoon so that people will take Hillary seriously. Then again, Edwards was doing this kind of stupid junk last time he ran too.

On the substance of it, what does Edwards think will happen here? He will tell everyone to dump their SUVs and they will listen? Hey, Johnny-boy, about the only thing you can expect from that will be finger salutes from the whole country. Or is this something more sinister? Will the Silky Pony try to get SUVs banned by law? That would be interesting. It might even get the revolution started early.

Something's not mentally right with John Edwards... seriously. I don't know if he's got such a big fear of failure that he'll say or do anything to get a vote, but he's not running on all cylinders in his head.
