Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Law of the Sea Treaty doesn't hold water

With all the critical problems facing America today, it's hard to see why President Bush is wasting whatever is left of his political capital to partner with Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., to try to get the Senate to ratify the United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty.

As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Biden is scheduled to hold a hearing loaded with pro-treaty witnesses and then try to sneak through ratification while the public is focused on other globalism and giveaway mischief.

The Law of the Sea Treaty is the globalists' dream bill. It would put the United States in a de facto world government that rules all the world's oceans under the pretense that they belong to "the common heritage of mankind." That's global-speak for allowing the United Nations and its affiliated organizations to carry out a massive, unprecedented redistribution of wealth from the United States to other countries.

Good ol' Jorge Bush isn't happy with simply abusing his political allies, he just keeps on kicking them when they're down. This guy is beginning to make Bill Clinton look like a class act.

Here's a prediction for you: The GOP monkey who decides to shift his campaign focus and run against Bush will be the one who wins the nomination. In fact, if he runs against Bush in the primary and then ties Hillary to Bush with superglue, he might just win the election next year.

I don't know if you know this or not but Bush 43 isn't on the ballot next year. :)

He doesn't need to be. Running against the incumbent, regardless of whether the incumbent happens to be running or not is always a workable political strategy. You can be sure that the Democrats will be running against Bush:

"Senator Thompson simply represents more of the same failed policies we've seen for the last eight years. Senator Clinton represents a new direction..."

Count on it.

I know the Democrats will be running against Bush 43 next year. I just don't think if a Republican runs against Bush 43, he will get very far for the GOP nomination.

The vast majority of Republicans are sick to death of Bush. Even though they will still stand in line to let him abuse them, they are privately wishing he would just go away. Any GOP candidate who runs against Bush, not on a personal level, but on the level of policies and ideas, will win the hearts and minds of the GOP faithful. If that person becomes the nominee, they will have eliminated the biggest GOP weakness and the Democrats will be forced to fall back on their stale strategies of class warfare and maudlin emotionalism.

There are lots of ways to let people know you are just as sick of the Smirking One as they are, without being obvious about it. The GOP candidate who masters that will not only take the nomination, he will win next November.
