Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

School vs. Jail

(Fox News) - During last Thursday's civil rights march in Jena, Louisiana — Jesse Jackson said there is something wrong with a country where there are more black youths in jail than in college. It's a popular claim among activists.

But government figures indicate that it is not true. Census Bureau statistics show there were 864,000 black men in college in 2005. The Justice department puts the number of black men in federal and state prisons and jails at around 837,000 as of June, 2006. And — for those in the 18 — 24 age bracket — black men in college outnumber those behind bars by four to one.

Jesse Jackson (a.k.a. Race Pimp #2), talks just to hear the noise come out of his pie hole. He blames the country. He has blamed society, whites, and everyone else except, guess who, black youths. Of course it's not their fault that they rob, kill, rape, and maim. It's our fault because we're not giving them enough handouts. It's our fault because the government isn't being their nanny. It's our fault because we don't give them a free education, a place to live, and while we're at it, cars and women.

As Thomas Sowell pointed out in his Vision series, literacy and employment among black men was on the rise before 1960. Crime, illegitimate births, and other negative social factors were all in decline. In fact, literacy among blacks exceeded that of whites on a per capita basis in some years during the 1950s. Then along came the race pimps and victim mongers. Guilty white liberals created an entire generation of young blacks who were utterly dependent on the government. All of the negative social factors skyrocketed after that. All the positive factors crumbled to dust.

As long as American blacks continue to listen to the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Hillary Clinton, and Ted Kennedy, their race will continue to represent an American under-culture. They will continue to inhabit the prisons in inordinate numbers. They will continue to produce fatherless children and they will continue to murder and abuse each other in enormous quantities.

You can tell a lot about society by looking at their prison population. America has the worst. The only way out of this is either, decriminalization, harm reduction or legalization. Apparently criminalization DOES NOT work. If you vote to solve the problem there are only 3 candidates that would solve this mess and none of them seem to have a chance of getting elected. Dr. Ron Paul, Sen. Mike Gravel or Sen. Dennis Kuchinik
