Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Ron’s Revolution

Could Dr. Paul really surprise us all?

By Dave Kopel

This weekend, I attended and spoke at the Second Amendment Foundation’s annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, which was held at a convention center in northern Kentucky, a few miles away from Cincinnati. What I saw and heard there changed my mind about the viability of Ron Paul’s presidential candidacy; Paul is going to far outperform the expectations laid out for him.

Interesting article.

I don't know anything about the author, but he invokes two Democrats as part of his resume. Pat Schroeder is an unrepentant Leftist and Gary Hart was center-left in his outlook, IIRC.

I found this amusing:

Is Paul still a longshot? Yes, but so were George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, and Gary Hart.

That's a pretty back-handed comparison. George McGovern got slaughtered by Nixon, Jimmy Carter rode in on the post-Watergate Republican fatigue wave and rode right back out after one term, and Gary Hart didn't even make it through the primaries.

It goes to what I have believed about Dr. Paul's campaign all along. He will pull in a lot of the leftists who are opposed to the war. They are going to be mighty disappointed when they discover he is as serious about dismantling the welfare state and restoring federalism as he is about ending the war.
