Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Sexy communist

One of the wall decorations in room 226 at Western Guilford High School is a poster of Che Guevara. Guevara is a sexier communist than Lenin, Stalin or Mao and his image has been commoditized in a capitalist society appealing to young people as a symbol of "revolution."

Che Guevara was a murderer of innocent people and ordered the executions of hundreds of dissidents in Cuba's La Cabana prison while he was its commandant.

These facts alone are enough to question Guilford County Schools acceptance of such a poster in a classroom, but given the current status of the quality of public education it's understandable these facts are ignored while the school embraces the pop culture image of Che Guevara.

I doubt most people in the Guilford County School system know who Che Guevara is. They probably think of him as a freedom fighter.
