Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Pinstriped Revolt!

Boy, I love this one. There's a rebellion brewing in the State Department. Our embassy in Iraq needs to be staffed -- needs about 50 people to fill vacancies. But some in the diplomatic corps don't want to go.

Yes, these are the "saviors" Democrats claim will "restore America's international standing" with "diplomacy"; who will stop the terrorists of the world by talking nice -- but don't ask them to go to an actual war zone to prove their theory.

In past wars, diplomats were dispatched to hostile countries, and they didn't complain. But this new breed of liberal diplomat is different. At a recent meeting, a senior diplomat -- Jack Coddy, or "Croddy," sorry (sounds better as "Croddy," actually) -- drew loud applause from his State Department colleagues when he said: "It's one thing if someone believes in what's going on over there, and volunteers; but it's another thing to send someone over there on a forced assignment, [Mr. Limbaugh!] I'm sorry, but basically that's a potential death sentence -- and you know it. Who will raise our children, if we are dead or seriously wounded?"

Did you catch that? "It's one thing if someone believes in what's going on over there"? What's going on over there, Mr. Croddy, is the defense of America against the forces of terrorism that attacked us. And these volunteers -- our military -- they have families, too! Our troops face potential death sentences every day without whining about it, and you claim diplomacy's the way to stop it, so go show us!

This story perfectly illustrates why it's our military entrusted with the protection of the nation, and who will ensure the survival of our way of life. Not these pinstriped, liberal, BS-artist wusses!

... or pinstriped, conservative, BS-artist wusses, either. That is, unless they all abandon their comfortable lives here on American soil (with a lot to live for) and work their magic of diplomacy (and talk radio) to combat 'the enemy' and bolster the morale of the troops. How 'bout it, Rush ... 'good morning baghdad,' every AM for a year or two? How'd you enjoy that? Hmm, I wonder.

Actually, the first hour of Rush's show is on Armed Forces Radio, and there are several liberal Democrats in Washington who wants to yank his program off Armed Forces Radio.
