Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Senate Re-Pork Card

From David Freddoso on National Review Online:

An alert reader points to the Club for Growth's new Senate Re-Pork card, keeping tabs on how senators have been voting on amendments that would eliminate pork projects from the budget.

Only three senators received a perfect score of 100% (and were present for a majority of the votes): Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK), Jim DeMint (R-SC), and Richard Burr (R-NC).

Coburn and DeMint you would expect — but who knew that Burr was so solid? The Senate class of 2004 continues to impress. Sens. Thune and Vitter come in at 73 percent a piece. Martinez, at the bottom of the class, still rolls in with 60 percent.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), meanwhile, scored 53 percent.

Kudos to Richard Burr... I consider it a badge of honor to be associated with Coburn and DeMint.

Thanks, Andy. This is interesting. I sometimes wonder about Burr, so this is good news.
