Wrong!

Folks, today, I want to do a review of the wonderful world of science in ancient times.
You know, before oxygen appeared, planet Erf was very sad. The pristine air that now surrounds it didn't exist. The atmosphere wasn't breathable. And, there was nobody to breathe it. The not-so-friendly skies were dominated by two eeevil gasses: methane and ammonia. (Can you imagine the aroma?) But nobody was here to smell it.
Then, shazaam! All of the sudden, oxygen happened. Scientists call it the "Great Oxidation Event." They still can't explain why it happened, but we know it did happen because we're here, breathing an atmosphere containing 21 percent oxygen. When oxygen came along, the Erf wasn't sad any more, folks.
Scientists -- the experts on every aspect of life and the planet -- until recently thought oxygen first appeared on Mother Erf between 2.3 and 2.4 billion years ago. But now they've learned that (gasp!) they were dead wrong! Scientists have discovered traces of oxygen in a 3,000-foot rock-core extracted in Australia. So the AP reports: "Oxygen, key to life on Earth today, began to appear on the planet millions of years earlier than scientists had thought, new research indicates." How much earlier did oxygen appear on Erf? How far was the scientists' original timeline off? Well, according to AP, 50 to 100 million years! Maybe more; we don't know, and they don't know. (They never know anything. They think they do, but they don't.)
Here's the science lesson of the day, folks -- especially those of you trying to advance a political agenda. When it comes to the study of Erf and its climate, what scientists claim to know today very often turns out to be dead wrong tomorrow.
