Beltway projects take fire: Mayors say scheduling by DOT unfair to some cities

(Winston-Salem Journal) - The mayors of Winston-Salem, Charlotte and other large cities are crying foul over the way state transportation officials are scheduling beltway projects, urging Gov. Mike Easley to re-examine how decisions are made on the projects.

Their concerns are based on what they and a member of the state Board of Transportation say is a flawed, secretive and unfair method by which the N.C. Department of Transportation allocates money for loop projects and schedules their construction dates.

As much as I hate to make a polemic out of this, as long as the Governor and most of the leadership in the NCGA are Eastern Democrats, Red cities like Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem can look forward to getting table scraps for the foreseeable future.
